How do you motivate a lazy salesperson

Laziness is usually just a symptom of a person who’s motivations aren’t being addressed.  For example if Tom’s motivation is to be in front of customers because he feeds on the interaction with others and he’s stuck doing odd chores and reports, he’s going to quickly become unmotivated or lazy.  Find out what your people’s motivation is.  What makes them tick?  Or When are they the happiest?  Then help them to do THAT more often.  Sticking a person in a position that goes against their motivations will result in a person who doesn’t wanna do it, and therefore will seem lazy or apathetic.
