Green Bay, WI–One of my favorite activities during the holidays was to make a plan of how I was going to pamper my team. We all know they work hard with long hours on their feet, and I actually had a budget for how I was going to show my appreciation to them for it.
To kick things off was the morning huddle. Of course we would go over the usual morning goal metrics, wins and schedules, but then we would all account for special family events we needed to attend. The team would all chime in and cover for each other to make sure everyone was able to enjoy these special moments with their families. The beauty was that they had each other’s backs and did what they needed to do to enjoy those high priority events.
Then I would plan catered lunches with quick, healthy food options such as a Qdoba buffet. They wanted to be able to grab a good meal quickly without having to heat up a cold piece of pizza and a bag of potato chips. Then there were specialty coffees, special breakfast sandwiches and occasionally a few bottles of wine and sparkling cider with great cheese and crackers for the end of the day. There was also a day of professional chair massages on the busiest day of December. People would often want to stay after hours instead of going home. That’s your own problem to figure out.
The result was a team that was enthused to come in for the busy season. They would brag to their friends which wasn’t a bad thing for me to keep my hiring pipeline full. But in the end, the holiday season is a season of celebration of showing appreciation for the people in your life. I challenge you to find creative ways to wow your team in the coming weeks and see what kind of ROI you get both monetarily and in store culture. Fa la la la la!
